Ok, as a writer, I know it is imperative to hook the reader right from the start. Is there a trick, something that is no-fail? Maybe dialogue, action, a short sentence? I am not an expert; I’m still learning and experimenting.
I’m going to throw out a little challenge (and be a bit helpful, too). . . Does anyone know from which book the following first paragraph came??
Men did not dump Lena Caprell. She dumped them. That was how it went. That was how it always went.
Anything come to mind? What are your thoughts – does it grab your attention and make you want to continue? What is your initial impression?
Feel free to comment with your thoughts and ideas. I’ll reveal the book tomorrow. Needless to say it is in the paranormal realm.
