I’m so behind on blog posts and book reviews! Ahhhh!! Maybe today I can get caught up before football starts. Even though my team (and my back-up team) are out of the play-offs, I will find someone to cheer for!
Yesterday I finished reading the ebook Raphael / Parish (Bayou Heat #1-2). The first story is by Alexandra Ivy and the second is by Laura Wright. I’ve read books by both of these authors previously and have very much enjoyed them. I was very excited to begin reading Bayou Heat. The cover alone was enough to peak my interest!! Did you check out the hottie with the sexy tattoo?? Give me a minute, I need to wipe the drool from my chin!
Alexandra’s website gives good background on the legend of the Pantera. I’ll start with it before I get into my thoughts.
Hidden in the depths of the Louisiana bayous, the Pantera, have become little more than a legend to most humans. It’s rumored that in the ancient past twin sisters, born of magic, had created a sacred land and claimed it as their own. From that land was born creatures who were neither human or animal, but a mixture of the two. Faster and stronger than humans, they have hyper acute senses, and when surrounded by the magic of the Wildlands they’re capable of shifting into pumas. It was also whispered that they possess other gifts. Telepathy, witchcraft, immortality, and the ability to produce a musk that could enthrall mere mortals. Mothers warned young girls never to roam alone near the swamps, convinced that they would be snatched by the Pantera, while young men were trained to avoid hunting anywhere near the protected Wildlands. Not that the warnings were always successful. What girl didn’t dream of being seduced by a gorgeous, mysterious stranger? And what young man didn’t want to try his skill against the most lethal predators?
As the years passed, however, the sightings of the Pantera became so rare that the rumors faded to myths. Most believed the entire species had become extinct. Sadly they weren’t entirely mistaken…
The cover isn’t the only thing that’s sexy about these reads. WOW! Raphael and Parish are very much two alpha hotties. I loved them both. They also happen to be shape shifters, changing into big cats. The stories are set in Louisiana in a beautifully magical bayou. I was initially sucked into the story with Ashe’s plight. A drunk for a mother who is anything but loving and nurturing and a now homeless Ashe who is also pregnant, courtesy of Raphael. He goes all caveman, wanting to protect his mate and their cub. The idea that the Pantera are real is a big leap for Ashe, who doesn’t readily submit to Raphael’s overbearing ways. The story is short but well-written and very hot & steamy.
Parish is another Pantera, one who has even less manners than Raphael! Oh, but do I love him! Dr. Julia Cabot is the perfect mate for him. I loved when Parish shifted and Julia rode on his back out to the caves. The scene that followed was a sexy tease!! The end of the story made me shake my fist – I wanted to know what happened!! I suppose I just have to wait for the next installment. Big sigh. But, I have no doubt it will be worth it.
Books 3 & 4 of Bayou Heat will feature Bayon (yay!) and Jean-Baptiste. I believe this release is set for April.
4 out of 5 stars!
