Reading fiend doesn’t begin to describe me these past couple of days. But when you get your hands on good books, it is inevitable.
I am a huge fan of the Guardians of Eternity series. I love the diversity of creatures – not just vamps and werewolves. The guys are smokin’ hot and the ladies are smart and sassy – definitely holding their own. Plus, how can you not love Levet, the stunted gargoyle with his misplaced modifiers? sayings?
Darkness Avenged, by Alexandra Ivy, is book #10 in the series. This is Santiago and Nefri’s story. Ah, Santiago is indeed a work of manly art. He also has a sire, Gaius, who sided with the Dark Lord and has now gone off the deep end. Even though we thought evil had been defeated in the last book, we were sadly mistaken. Not that I’m complaining, mind you. It makes for good, fast-paced reading!
Nefri is a wicked powerful vampire who doesn’t cut Santiago any slack. She is all I am woman, hear me roar when the need arises. She is sensible, an experienced clan leader, and very much the diplomat.
I have to say, though, their story was nearly overshadowed by Roke and his little witch, Sally. I loved those parts of the story. Roke, who ends up mated to the witch seeming by a spell, is steadfastly opposed to having a woman of any variety – let alone a witch – in his life. Those two were priceless. As were some of the scenes with Roke and Styx, the Anasso, when they were arguing about females and not Roke’s return to Nevada. He sure could get possessive of Sally if needed. I absolutely cannot wait for their story! It is sure to have many funny, hair-pulling moments!
So, the quick and dirty summary: If you haven’t started reading this series, you need to.
4.5 out of 5 stars
