An Interview with Cynthia Dawn Griffin

Have you seen Dawn’s new website? If not, you need to stop by and check it out! Here’s the link: https://cynthiadgriffin.com/

After I noticed she made major changes,I had a bunch of questions for her! Lucky for you (and  me) she was more than willing to give me some answers. I decided I would share them with you.

I hope you enjoy my interview with Dawn!

I noticed the website has a new look and feel to it. What prompted the change?

I’ve been interested in growing and expanding my site in what I offer and the message I’m trying to put out there. So far it’s all been about writing, and I did start a Speak Your Truth series last year, because I felt the need to switch gears for a while to go deeper and have more meaningful content. Now I want to combine the two worlds. My blog will still be about writing, but I also want for it to be about personal empowerment.

I have been on a journey the last few years to improve and increase my personal empowerment, and I want to help others do the same. I plan to do this through online classes, continue with Speak Your Truth series, as well as become a motivator to help people to become the best versions of themselves.  Continue reading “An Interview with Cynthia Dawn Griffin”

Current Reads

I seem to be fickle of late or maybe it’s ADHD. I can’t seem to stick with a book and finish it, no matter how interested I am in the plot or characters. I think it’s because of changing tastes–one minute it’s fiction, one it’s non-fiction, and one it’s young adult. Go figure, right?!

So, here’s my list…try to keep up!

shutterstock_735521536

Non-Fiction:

Oglethorpe Plan: Enlightenment Design in Savannah and Beyond by Thomas D. Wilson. I picked this up on a visit to Savannah. It seemed like a good fit with my love of architecture and design.

True Crime:

Chase Darkness with Me: One True-Crime Writer Started Solving Murders by Billy Jensen. I love his podcast so naturally I had to pick up the book. It has not disappointed. Jensen and Holes rock in Murder Squad–if you’re looking for a well-done podcast, check it out! link

YA:

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas. I didn’t realize this book is a prequel to the Throne of Glass series, but so far I’m enjoying it. I just hope that Celaena tones things down a bit. She’s a bit hard to like now.

Killing November by Adriana Mather. I downloaded the sample on my Kindle, and I have to say I’m intrigued. The last time I was at a bookstore, they didn’t have the title in stock. I think that’s why I haven’t gone any further–I want to hold the book and just not my Kindle!

PNR:

Blood Truth (Black Dagger Legacy #4) by J. R. Ward. I don’t know why I haven’t gone further in this book. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to savor it. There aren’t enough BDB books released in a year for me!

So what do you think? A good bit of variety. Any on my list that you’ve read? Any suggestions of what I should seriously delve into?

Fairy Tale Lies Book Release

Title: Fairy Tale Lies

Series: Opposites Attract #1

Author: DK Marie

Published: June 3rd, 2019

Publisher: Champagne Book Group

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Content Warning: Steamy but not Erotica

Age Recommendation: 18+

Synopsis:

Greta and Jacob aren’t looking for love, but when they meet, their attraction is white hot, melting away all self-restraint.

Both times.

The first is a stormy spring afternoon, spent indulging in each other’s bodies. When they’re abruptly interrupted, they part ways convinced they’re nothing more than an erotic chapter in the other’s life.

However, when they unexpectedly meet again, Jacob isn’t willing to let Greta slip away. He convinces her to give them a chance.

Lust turns to love, but resentments fester. Jacob’s convinced Greta will never see him as anything more than a blue-collar nobody. A temporary indulgence. Greta fears she isn’t strong enough to stand against both her family’s scorn and Jacob’s growing anger.

As tempers flare and passions deepen, they have to decide if their love is strong enough to shatter the cynicism and misconceptions of what it means to be each other’s fairy tale ending.

In the evenings, I’ve gotten back to reading. I’m filling up my tablet’s memory with Kindle books. Trust me, I’m not complaining. The only difficult thing, at times, is to figure out what I want to read next.

Screen Shot 2018-07-23 at 6.56.50 PMI started my “roll” with The Last Echo by Michael Connelly. It’s the first book in the Harry Bosch series. Harry is a detective in LAPD’s Hollywood Division. I’ve read through Book 11, The Closers, and then looked for something else. I wasn’t sure how I would like the books when Harry retired, but I kept on going. I finally took a break because I got the feeling Harry’s going to get really hard on himself, and I’m afraid that’s going to take away from the story. I could be totally wrong, but I decided a change was in order.

I tried John Sandford’s Rules of Prey, the first book in the Lucas Davenport series. It did not work for me. I couldn’t connect with Davenport (the detective), and some of the things that happened in the book left me sour.

Interview with Dawn:

Tell us about the story. Where did you get the inspiration for it? How long did it take you to write it? Do you share any traits or likes/ dislikes with your characters? Where is your story set? A fictional place or somewhere you’ve visited/ lived?

This is a science fiction epic series called Emperors of Ethia, and Blood Feud is the first book of that series. I have three core books planned, but have enough story for far more. I even have an outline for a prequel novel and several short stories.  These other works helped me a lot with fleshing out the backstory for the series.

The inspiration for this series came from many places. The show Prison Break, the Sherlock Holmes stories, Farscape, Star Wars, Star Trek were very heavy inspirations for this series, and if you look close enough, you may see some of those parts emulated in the story. Wannabe singer and band front man Erik Von Nordgren hates snarky brit Asher Berkley with a passion. From the moment he turns up at practice with his twin sister Daisy, who is one of the band the two have hated each other.

Through a series of ‘tit for tat’ incidents they annoy, frustrate and exasperated each other. The die hard goth with purple eyes and the hard core rocker with dreams of the big time have nothing in common and no need to cross paths. Except to wind each other up.

Until the day that Erik throws Asher in the school pool, when everything begins to change. Erik is so far in closet he’s in Narnia and Asher has a dark past and trust issues that stand in the way of any relationship, let alone one with the brash American who hurts him every time they try to get together.

A relationship doomed from the start, or so you’d think.  Continue reading “New Release: Upstaged 1 – Opening Act”
