Easter Weekend Wrap

Well, the holiday is nearly over, and I finally have time to take a breath – and sit down at the computer! It has been a busy but beautiful weekend!

I’m going to set-up this post like the previous “Wrap” posts. I hope you enjoy catching up on me (and taking a break from the book reviews).

Word to describe the weekend: I’m going with gorgeous because of the sunny, mostly mild days we had. Granted, they started off chilly, but the afternoons were very pleasant. It made for nice traveling weather.

Books: I just finished reading Chloe Neill’s book, Wild Things (Chicagoland Vampires #9). I have to say I really enjoyed it – even gave it 5 stars. Now, I can get started on J.R. Ward’s The King. Yay!! I’m so looking forward to that one!

Exercise: It is harder and harder to get to the gym. With Spring finally here, I want to be outside. I did go for a run Friday morning on the Rail Trail. I did about 3 miles in 27:44. My goal is to run a 5K in 27 flat. I’m not a fast runner (never have been), but since my knees won’t let me run half marathons anymore, I’m going to work on my 5K time. I did squeeze in a quick workout at Planet Fitness with my cousin on Saturday. I just love the ab coaster! I know, I’m weird. It works so well that I wish my gym would invest in one.

TV/ Movies: I’m still watching Arrow. Since I don’t get the CW, I watch it on Thursday on my iPad. It is a nice almost-end-of-the-week treat.Burn_Notice_Season1 In this past week’s episode, Felicity had some awesome lines – you go, girl!! My current Netflix obsession is Burn Notice. I just love Michael and Fiona. Sam cracks me up, and Maddie is a force all on her own!! I like the addition of Jesse to the cast. My one wish is that Michael and Fiona would be a couple again. They are so perfect for each other! Oh, and have I mentioned how much I like Michael’s sunglasses?? Doesn’t hurt that he’s always eating yogurt either.

Writing: The writing front is stalled. The zombie story was rocking; now, I just need time to get back to it. I reworked the beginning to up the tension, and I think it ties in better with the ending. One of these days…

I think that about covers it! Back to laundry for me. Then, I will be cracking open The King. Enjoy!

Welcome 2014

Well, today is a fresh start in some respects. People will be making and trying to keep all those resolutions, and in general, preparing for what lies ahead. I decided to lay out some general goals for this year. I know, I know: goals are supposed to be specific, measurable, realistic, and attainable. I think for me, though, general works better!

By the way, as I’m typing this, I’m listening to the soundtrack from the CW’s show Arrow. Ahh…new episode January 15th. Sorry, sidetracked already!! Continue reading “Welcome 2014”

Learning from Hollywood

My friend Dawn and I were discussing the TV show Arrow, which has quickly become one of my favorites. We talked about why we like it so much – other than the obvious man candy appeal! Dawn hit the nail on the head when she said, “…superb writing and excellent acting make for a kick ass show.” Woot woot! Of course, she is 100% correct!

Before I get too far into this, if you are an Arrow fan and aren’t current on the episodes, proceed with caution. I didn’t try to give anything away, but I may have inadvertently done so.

That line of thought (not the spoilers but the show in general) led to . . . as writers, what can we learn from Arrow to make our own stories better? Continue reading “Learning from Hollywood”

The Wrap: Vol. 3

It has been a while since I’ve done My Week In Review. I haven’t been very good about blogging of late so I thought that this might be a good way to catch everyone up on me and my little corner of the world.

Word to Describe the Past Week: Tired!! Not sure if it is too much work and too much gym coupled with not enough sleep, but I have been a tired girl this week. Thursday night I went to bed right after dinner and was asleep by 8:30 PM. Yikes! Sadly, the trend is continuing as I wasn’t able to sleep in yesterday or today.

Books: I haven’t done much reading of late. Shocker, I know!! I did re-read Sonoran Heat (review to come), and I’m dying to get started on Pamela Clare’s latest I-Team release, Striking Distance.

Writing: I was a NaNoWriMo slacker this past week. However, I am happy to report that I wrote a whopping 4K words yesterday on my story. Big yay! It brings my total to just under 10K words. I hope that I can keep the writing roll going this week.

TV/ Movies: Haven’t been to the movies (I do want to see Ender’s Game, though), but I am totally hooked on CW’s Arrow. Stephen Amell is ah-mazing! Ladies, have you seen the ladder stunt or those abs? Yum-my! Yes, I’m a bit addicted (in case you couldn’t tell)!

Music: My current workout playlist is a combo of songs from Teen Wolf. The techno/ dance music is great for getting me going during cardio and pushing me through lifting weights.

Surprise of the Week: I had a gentleman buy me a Starbucks coffee (without asking, he just did it) and wish me an early happy holidays. Have no idea who he was, but I really appreciated the gesture!

This week should hopefully not be as busy – fingers are crossed!! I’m excited to hit the gym on Monday. I’ve designed my own workout (actually combined pieces of other workouts along with advice of guys at the gym) so I’m anxious to see how it goes. Do you realize it has been 16 weeks that I’ve been seriously spending quality time in the gym? I’m happy with the results and want to keep pushing myself to carve more muscle.

Hope everyone has a great week!
