My Year in Books 2014

Thanks to Goodreads for making this easy for me! Unfortunately, Netflix got in the way of me reading more. Plus (and this is a good thing), two years ago, I had surgery, which required an 8 week recovery. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time reading that summer!

I’m going to share my top reads and then I’m going to share my top Netflix shows. Let me know if anything on my list made yours as well!

My top M-M reads for 2014 (no particular order; these all received 5 star ratings from me):

  • A_Hunted_ManDaylight Again (Hell or High Water #3) by S.E. Jakes. If you haven’t read any of this series, you need to. Prophet and Tom rock! (Catch a Ghost is the first book in the series, FYI)
  • A Hunted Man (The Men of Halfway House #2) by Jaime Reese. Just love Cameron and Hunter.
  • Stars & Stripes (Cut & Run #6) by Abigail Roux. Actually, several books (Armed & Dangerous and Sticks & Stones, for example) in this series received high marks from me. Ty and Zane are one of my absolute favorite couples.

Nice Guys Series

I just finished reading two hard-to-put-down m-m romance novels on my Kindle. The first was Double Full (Nice Guys #1) by Kindle Alexander.

This is the story of football star, Colton Michaels, and cheerleading standout Jace Montgomery. We first meet the guys in college and then the story jumps a couple of years until Colt is an NFL star (lots of angst and drama in the meantime!). At the risk of spoiling the stories, the guys reconnect in Hawaii at a home that has special meaning for them. Don’t assume the HEA is right around the corner. They have a lot to get through after something horrible and significant happens (you’ll have to read for more info on that one!).

One of the characters who was steadfast and very supportive of Colt was Dr. Knox, the team’s doctor. Good for us that Dr. Knox has a gay son, Mitch, who happens to be a US Marshal. Can you see where I’m going with this one…Double_Full

Blurb:

Up and coming football hero, Colton Michaels, makes a Hail Mary pass one night in the college locker room that results in the hottest, sexiest five days of his young life. However, interference after the play has him hiding his past and burying his future in the bottom of a bottle. While Colt seems to have it all, looks can be deceiving, especially when you’re trapped so far in a closet that you can’t see your way out. When ten years of living his expected fast-lane lifestyle lands him engaged to his manipulative Russian supermodel girlfriend, he decides it’s time to call a new play.

Jace Montgomery single-handily built the largest all-star cheerleading gym in the world, driven by a need to forget a life-altering encounter with a handsome quarterback a decade ago. His reputation as an excellent coach, hard-nosed business man, and savvy entrepreneur earned him respect in the sometimes catty world of competitive cheerleading. When Jace learns of his ex-lover’s plans to marry, his heart executes a barrel roll and his carefully-placed resolve tumbles down without a mat to absorb the shock. Can his island escape help him to finally let go of the past and move his life forward?

I definitely enjoyed the read and had to start the second book right away. There were a couple of small issues (more nit-picky than anything) that I had, but nothing that made me want to put the book down. I give Double Full 4 out of 5 stars! Continue reading “Nice Guys Series”
